Jury duty (09 Jan 2009 at 13:02)
I am at the courthouse for jury duty. This is boring because it is basically exclusively sitting quietly with nothing happening duty. But one thing that is happening is a Steelers rally around the Terrible Tree in the courtyard in the center of the Courthouse. This is black and gold and funny to me, and also though I was admonished in instructions to not wear jeans or improper attire for sitting duty, I am pretty sure that Steelers jerseys count as proper attire on account of the upcoming playoffs game this weekend.

I took a picture of this amusing scene but now the thing where I upload pictures from my phone is not working probably because it feels disused but there's no hope in fixing it from the phone, even with all day to sit around tapping on this crashy glass keyboard.

Hi. I'm a friend of Charlie's and I found your story so amusing that I linked it on my intarblarg (ergotism.org which is mirrored at popejeremy.livejournal.com)

And just to clarify things for you: The Steelers jersey is not acceptable because a big game is coming up soon. The Steelers jersey is acceptable because you're in Pittsburgh. In this town there is no occasion for which a Steelers jersey is inappropriate attire, at any time, ever.

Jeremy: Thanks! You're right of course that Steelers Jerseys are acceptable for any occasion. The thing about a big game coming up is that nobody is allowed to shoot you a sideways glance or even like internally contemplate whether or not that is okay, because it might jinx the upcoming matchup and nobody wants to be responsible for that bad news.

Yes, but if the defendant's attorney arrives in a Steelers jersey, or the defendant himself dons the black and yellow, what then? Will justice prevail?
