November 2011 font sightings (29 Nov 2011 at 23:23)
I recognize my fonts like I'd recognize hypothetical children, so imagine my palpitations when I saw one of my hypothetical children hanging out in the battle-ripped warzone of Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3:

The word 'Bienvenue' in my font Antelope H, appearing in the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer map SEATOWN

This is from the multiplayer map called "Seatown". The font is Antelope H, which I don't see as often as some others. Not only does this screenshot tell me that I'm LOSING, you can literally see me being shot (screen turns red with pain), holding the starting noob weapon with full ammo, as I do a double-take and capture a screenshot. I was super dead less than a second later. See what you made me do, kids?? Bedtime!!

And speaking of kids, I really like the popular series of videos called Kid History which are stories narrated by kids but acted out by adult humans. (Episodes 1 and 6 are by far my favorites.) I was showing my family these over Thanksgiving break and it continued on to this "Kid Remix" those same guys made, which features Action Jackson in a few scenes:

The phrase 'Kid Re__x', which we presume is 'Kid Remix', in my font Action Jackson, on some bricks with a sporty looking dude in the foreground.

It's not quite a Kid History sighting but close. And while we're on the topic of youtube videos that I really like but that don't actually contain my fonts, I think my all-time favorite is bad lip reading (almost all of them are amazing, but my favorites are Dirty Spaceman and Black Umbrella). Make sure you watch the original videos for the musical ones, to fully appreciate it.

Recently I encountered what appeared to be "Boring Boron" in a comic book shop. I mentioned this to the store owner who responded "No, that is a real font, not something your friend would have made."

Do you have a design patent on any of your fonts? If you have fonts that have been shown to the public for less than a year, you should talk to a patent agent to get design protection - not necessarily to make profit, but at least to prevent these corporate bastards form stealing from you! Although copyright protection is theoretically automatically available, I understand that in the US a court is very unlikely to give you damages without a design patent! :( .

Nevertheless, I think that this is at least a testament to your awesomeness as a designer!

Blinky: I'm quite happy to have corporate bastards use my fonts, which is why I posted them for anyone to download for free. :) License fees for fonts are paltry, far less than the fun of spotting them while I'm playing a game!

Neal: ahaha, I love this story so much.

Congrats on having your font featured! That's so exciting!!!
Also, just randomly--I only just now have discovered your fonts, and may I say, sir, YOU ARE AMAZING. I love all of the fonts that you have created, but what I love even more are your short comments with hints of cynicism to them that accompany those fonts as a description. I found myself giggling almost as much as I was clicking the "Download" button. :) Thank you so much for being so awesome! My computer and I thank you! :D
Congrats again! You totally deserve that honor of having your font featured, even if it caused you to die in your ultra-manly war game. :) Cheers!

Hi Tom,

I recently downloaded your font 'valium' from Fontspace and tried to e-mail you from the e-mail address you had listed in the readme.txt. Unfortunately, it bounced back ~ guess you changed your e-mail!

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks!! Also, congrats on your font being displayed in MW3! I'll have to look for it the next time I play.

On the front page of this week's Target circular ad, they're promoting school supplies, and there at the head of the page is a composition notebook. See, you can tell it's a composition notebook because it has "COMPOSITION" written on it. In Action Jackson.

Maybe you could write to them and suggest that they be renamed "doodle books," or whatever. You'd have some clout, after all.

Nice! I tried to go to Target to get a circular (they had it on display but none for collectors) and/or notebook (might just be a fantasy notebook) and left empty-handed, but that was fun to see anyway. Wish it was a Trapper Keeper though!
