Connector World by Tom 7 (29 Sep 2014 at 23:37)
Old news now, I know, but earlier in the month I made Connector World, a video game, for the 48h programming contest Ludum Dare.

This is another browser game using just HTML and JavaScript, having divested of Flash. It should work great in Chrome and OK in Firefox and might not work on other browsers.

Since I took so long to post this one, I can report the results of the contest! I got 73rd place overall (there were about 2,500 entries) and 11th place for "humor."

Anyway, it's an adventure-puzzle game that's pretty short. You can do it! Click to confirm your order.

Some hints:

I regret that the rules require you to leave open spaces for the "in" and "out" indicators, since there's no real point to this and it's not that fun to figure out
Once you get past the metal balls, you're almost done
If you get stuck on the last level, perhaps your current approach is wrong? There shouldn't be any dead ends.

You didn't link to the ludum dare homepage, and haven't told us the theme, so now I don't know what this year's horrible pun is.

Oh no, maybe the horrible pun is the "dead ends"?

So what do I do if I clicked on a connector on the tray but can't place it anywhere on the board because there's not enough free space? How do I drop it back to the tray or move the other connectors or something?

Ok ok, I get it, it's just a Ludum Dare game, it can't be perfect.

More seriously, I'm stuck on the last level.

In that case you have to restart. It's a situation I knew about but didn't have time to fix before the end! Sorry. :(

IMO the last level is worth solving, and you just gave yourself a hint. :) See also the carefully worded last hint...

this time more than ever you captured the feeling of those cheap but awesome games of the mid 80s afternoons.

now just add a 10 minutes loading screen otherwise I have no excuse for the milk and cookies I had while waiting..

Thanks! :) I was going for 320x200x256 mode 13H 90s aesthetic, but maybe you had a better compute than me. ;)

You're right, I think my memory is more musical than visual. The tune and the way it repeats itself is reminiscent of the C=64 days (the intermission screens too!).

But then the visual style is mode 13h indeed. More heart-sinking memories.. SEG A000 ... :°°°°(
