In the process of doing a report for class, I found Tom Murphy 1's record (link fixed 5 September 2003) at Andersonville, the prison camp where he died in the civil war. Crazy. See also information on the New York 61st Infantry Regiment, which he was part of.
Actually, it turns out that we don't know if Tom Murphy 1 really was the first, or if there were more before him in Ireland. Maybe I am really Tom 8 or Tom 9? |  |
