RIAA Radar
(24 May 2003 at 23:39) |
Now you can see if you are supporting the despicable RIAA when you purchase a CD. I was sad to see that Matador is an RIAA member, since I have an awful lot of matador stuff... |
|
|
there's an interesting thread about that at the matador bbs...GC claims they aren't a member and they've asked the RIAA to take their name off the website repeatedly.
|
Ahhh, well that's good cuz Matador is basically the only label in there whose records I ever buy (well, I've gotten a few from TIme Bomb, Rhino, and Rykodisc too, but not anything recently). I think the grossest are the individual musicians and bands in there:
Billy Corgan
Smashing Pumpkins (yep, both separately)
Bon Jovi
Elton John
Garth Brooks
Insane Clown Posse
Liz Phair
Lyle Lovett |
K: Huh, interesting. Is it because they were distributed by Capitol, or sleeping with them, or something?
M: Liz Phair is her own corporation now? Man, she just keeps getting worse and worse...
|
Yeah, I happened upon Liz's website the other day after reading a strange bit in pitchfork about it. She thinks she's Avril Lavigne. She even enlisted her producer! I think she's really confused. She also seems to be making a feeble attempt to hold on to her old fanbase by touring with the Flaming Lips, which makes no sense to me. If she's gonna suck she should at least be smart about it and tour with Alanis and go all out.
It's sad how far she's fallen... I was listening to _Exile in Guyville_ yesterday while I was running errands and wondering what the hell happened.
T7: Yes, I think the Matador RIAA relationship is some baggage left from the Capitol/Atlantic deals of the past. |
I've been listening to the Girly Sounds tapes (and other old stuff) from the rotating mp3 archive (http://www.visi.com/~lazlo/liz/sounds/mpeg/) recently. She used to be so good, it's too bad... |
Oh my god, I listened to her new single !!! AWFUL!!!!!! |
Yeah. It kinda makes you feel bad. Because her first album was so good, and with each album getting worse and worse I kept hoping she would snap out of it and make another good album. But, I think it's officially over. She ain't coming back. So, I'll keep listening to guyville and try to collect up as much 'girly sounds' as I can find and move on to other music. But I'm not happy about it. |
Don't forget "Guided by Voices". |
Well, GBV aren't even a band any more, but they only released like 2 records on TVT. |
