Evolution Quote
(27 Dec 2003 at 10:51) |
I found this quote in a book I'm proofreading today for Distributed Proofreaders (a very worthwhile project; please try it!) called "The Positive School of Criminology." I don't think it appears anywhere else on the internet:
"For my part, and so far as my human consciousness is concerned, I prefer to be an immensely perfected ape rather than to be a degenerated and debased Adam." -- Ernst Haeckel, Univesity of Jena, 18??

Of course, we don't really get to pick, do we? |
We surely get to pick what we believe... |
We do, but what we believe doesn't change what is... |
But what does it matter? |
What is the mind? No matter. What is matter? Nevermind. |
What does it matter? Just wait. You'll see. |
Mind over matter! |
Matter? Brain Matter? |
"For my part, and so far as my human consciousness is concerned, I prefer to be an immensely perfected ape rather than to be a degenerated and debased Adam." -- Ernst Haeckel, Univesity of Jena, 18??
Yeah, and let's not forget that Ernst Haeckel is the person who faked the drawings of embryos that have been used for a century now to "prove" evolution... |
It's just a quote, buddy. The scientific model of evolution in no way relies on drawings for proof. We have much better methods than that. |
