To 1,000 and beyond! (02 Mar 2004 at 09:33)
Oh yeah, I beat my brother Mike to 1,000 songs on Audioscrobbler. (Audioscrobbler is a neat plugin for winamp and other players that keeps on-line stats on what you play, and helps you see what music is related to it. The data are all supposedly free for everyone, which helps me believe it's not just some nefarious marketing data collection plot.) Want to attach "experience points" to something you do anyway? This is it!

I was cheated out of about 300 songs a few weeks ago when their server went down, but I still win: brighterorange vs. oatmeal2000!

Small world. I just installed Audioscrobbler today, and I popped in a playlist to check if it was working. The playlist happened to have one of my own songs (an older one, non-AAD) on it, and I saw that I could click the link and see what other scrobblers were listening to songs by that artist. Well, imagine my surprise when I saw, on the Quincunx page, not just my own play... but 11 from some guy named "brighterorange." I was like, "Who is this brighterorange who is listening to my music?" I clicked the link... and there's Tom's smiling visage! Small world.
