The Desperate Things (04 Nov 2004 at 23:28)
Totally awesome song that I missed appreciating in 1995 but now know to love: "The Desperate Things You Made Me Do" by the Magnetic Fields ("Get Lost"). What else am I missing??

I'm surprised to see you don't have any Bogdan Raczynski albums on your CD list, so I'll recommend him. Some of his music actually reminds me of your tracks - some old skool 8-bit-style, fun singing, math lyrics. And I read somewhere that he made one of his albums in a day, but I can't find any reference to that anywhere now.

Have you listened to the "i" album (also magnetic fields)?
same wavelength: postal service, blur, the smiths,
higher power: rasputina, crystal method
trip-hop: zero7, portishead

Yeah, I have heard "i", but I think there are only about three songs I like on it. Actually, "Get Lost" doesn't really compare to 69 Love Songs (what could?) but that one song is great.

I remember thinking that Bogdan had potential, but not giving him a real chance. Maybe I should try again.

yeah, get lost is great. The House of Tomorrow EP is also quite good.

But nothing beats Deerhoof live. Saw them two nights ago, and it was the best show I've seen in quite awhile. I think I have a new favorite drummer.

Hah, that's exactly what I have said after each time I've seen them (about a "new favorite drummer")!

Though I guess the second time, it wasn't "new". I knew and so, when they came on, I said to my friends, "sorry, I have to ditch you all and move to the very front for Deerhoof cuz I just want to watch the drummer the whole time."

Yeah, he's a sweet guy as well, I chatted him up at the merch table about the Wilco tour and such, and he just came across as very genuine and unaware of his massive skills. Satomi was also quite nice.
