|The green on the horizontal lines is really strong for me, while I can't seem to get the magenta on the vertical lines to be anything but rather subtle; I barely noticed it at first.
The longevity of the effect is nifty, though. I keep wasting time by rotating my head and watching the colors go away and then return changed.
|I first saw the McCollough effect in a class in perception I took in 1998. I don't remember if I've repeated it since then. But I definitely see the effect without staring at the color grids first.
I'm sure it is a coincidence. Probably.
