Eye poison
(03 Jul 2006 at 18:13) |
Here's a freaky optical illusion that keeps going and going. I feel a little like my brain has been poisoned like in Snow Crash. |
|
|
Wow! |
Yeah, I started feeling really weird as soon as I looked at the green and magenta thingies. |
MY EYES ARE STILL POISONED |
The green on the horizontal lines is really strong for me, while I can't seem to get the magenta on the vertical lines to be anything but rather subtle; I barely noticed it at first.
The longevity of the effect is nifty, though. I keep wasting time by rotating my head and watching the colors go away and then return changed. |
I first saw the McCollough effect in a class in perception I took in 1998. I don't remember if I've repeated it since then. But I definitely see the effect without staring at the color grids first.
I'm sure it is a coincidence. Probably.
No, I'm not an extrovert.
What does he mean, V1 is monocular?!? |
Yeah, this thing kinda... stays with you.
I did it for a decent amount of time a few weeks ago and I STILL see it. Urgh. |
I think I'm finally cured! |
Aah poisoned |
When you've recovered, check out the moving magic eye on wikipedia:

Sorry for the wrong link! |
Still poisoned... |
I still kinda see it too, but it's nowhere near as prominent as when I first did it. |
WTF is lumeta.com corrupting your database |
