|My latex masterpiece is absurd and I do suffer
(14 Dec 2007 at 00:06)
| I have submitted my dissertation to my advisors.|
You can read it, if you want, but you might want to wait for the forthcoming annotated edition which has illustrations and footnotes and things like that, especially if you don't know anything about type theory.
Now, video games and beer.
|I found a typo|
|I was going to read it before going to bed but then it turned out 381 pages is a lot.|
|"Copyright (c) 3007 Tom Murphy VII"
On the one hand I imagine the first page was read enough times so that a typo is unlikely, on the other hand if there is a joke present I don't get it.
|A third but compelling possibility is that I've had too much to drink.|
|You'd be forgiven for only reading the first 228 pages, and letting Twelf read the rest for you.|
|The more sober me says: congratulations. It must feel good to be done writing.|
|It's actually part of the thesis style file, I guess as a joke on the interminableness of the process. I'll feel better after I defend!|
|Awesome! See you tonight?|
|I found typos too.
On page i, in "Copyright (C) 3007 Tom Murphy VII", the year is after the first publishing.
On page 110, "ML5 closely resembles Standard ML in syntax in semantics", the second "in" should probably be "and".
There are missing references like "[? " at some places, inclusing page 118, and 126.
|Jonas: the 3007 is a joke (actually part of the thesis style file that I left in until the final version) and I know about the few missing citations, but the mistake on 110 is real and I fixed it. Thanks!|
Congrats for finishing it anyway.
|Congrats tom you are awesome drink multiple brews for me|
|Congratulations! But how is it absurd?|
|It's not really absurd, except in the effort:payout ratio. The title of this post is from magnetic poetry on my fridge.|
|a preemptive congrats, tom.|
I plan on studying this intently, then either:
a) joining you in your conquest of the world, or if you choose not to do this,
b) ripping you off.
|Hock, yes, please do rip.|
|Is the effort:payout ratio more absurd than with wikiplia?
|jonas: I think so, yes!|
|Just read this post, and wow! And yay! Awesome for you! I will definitely be at the defense.
