Plus, if you're not eating, what else to do with the extra free time?

Well, I've decided to sign up. I've decided to use it as a brain dump. I want to extract out as much as I can about what I think about during the day and see what else comes out with it. I expect it to be completely incoherent. And that's ok. I just want it to be about the writing.

My friend Rich (www.sadsalvation.com) is going to do it too. He was thinking of fasting for Ramadan this year, though he's not muslim, but doesn't want to do both "projects" at once. I think that he should. I think that his reasons for exploring each of these endurance-demanding processes are connected.

Sure, man, what's wrong with Dutch?

Tadbot, yes, #6 is not implemented yet. Unless the map is *really* big, that is indeed a bug (the algorithms are designed to run pretty quickly), and in fact, I have a "XXX once this didn't terminate for me" for randtype 3. I recommend only using types 0 and 1.

Hmmm... maybe I WILL try... but in dutch, as my writing in english is not that good.
Which is fine with the organization. They only count the words, not paying attention to the contents that much.

Huzzah, I finally beat those 3 remaining levels.
I also noticed a couple buggish things while starting to level-edit:

I changed the size to larger than the screen, and when I tried to randomize the map with randomize mode 3, it seemed to freeze. Maybe this randomizing method just takes longer depending on the size of the map, and I was impatient.

Also, randomize mode 6 gives me a "randtype not implemented" error, but maybe that's because you just haven't implemented that yet.

its ok

Tadbot, cool...! Those Funtiks make some pretty rough puzzles indeed...

As I mentioned, sound effects and animations are coming, but not soon. Also on the to-do list is tilesets ("skins") for doing exactly the kind of stuff you mention. And, if you want to make some different-sized levels, I'd love to have them!

Thanks for playing!

Do all programming languages have a purpose?

The game looks fun so far - I've beaten all the supplied levels except for 3 levels by Funtik. I don't think I've run into any bugs yet.

Features that might be good to add eventually:
Sound effects & animation wouldn't hurt.
Maybe an AAD soundtrack to go with it.
Additional tile sets - give different themes to levels; jungle maze, space station, warehouse, abstract blobs, etc.
Levels of different sizes, to test out how well they work.

Unless you like excluded middle, in which case things get more complicated (although I guess that you could use this to say that classical logics have no purpose...).

I've been meaning to tell you about this, since one of the guys in my program (who also lives down the hall from me) is way into the idea of doing this (although I'd put money on him not getting it done). If not for the fact that I hate writing more than anything else that I can remember ever having been forced to do, then maybe I'd do it.

All logics have a purpose. You just mirror them to a programming language via a Curry-Howard analogue and voila!

Then again, the operation would "pay for itself"!!!

jcreed: let's do it!
nothings: cool!
tuur: It is a lot! But, I have experience with mass output in short periods. ;) I think I can fit it in if I just ignore my other projects for that period...

897. Tuuur (supercow.kabel.utwente.nl) – 25 Oct 2003 05:17:01 Nanowrimo ]
Seems like fun, but seems to be way too much work to me as well. 50.000 words, or 175 pages in 30 days...that's about 6 pages a day!

Hmm, ok, html doesn't work, but you can cut and paste it anyway.

Probably not going to do it this year, as it was a fairly significant time sink. I'd probably be better off just trying to write the whole thing over a four-day Thanksgiving holiday or something. (I was way behind, and ended up writing the last 18,000 words in about 28 hours.)

I (the "nothing nothings" AAD guy) did this last year--it was quite fun, and definitely crap art mentality.

I have been planning to do this since last november.
