The giving $43 billion to charity ''blues'' (09 Apr 2008 at 22:33)
Pretty much any time we want we can record a tune thanks to the miracle of modern computer digital technology and that is what we did, yielding Sick Ridiculous and The Sick Ridiculous — The giving $43 billion to charity "blues".

Theme from SIGBOVIK (robot dance party) (02 Apr 2008 at 23:46)
Sick Ridiculous and The SIG Ridiculous

Nels and I played as Sick Ridiculous and The SIG Ridiculous at the SIGBOVIK pre-afterparty on Saturday. Other than the stealth open mic night we did last monday, this was my first time ever performing with someone else in front of a live audience including people I didn't know. (Most of them were people I did and continue to know (phew). Thank you for coming. Next time I will announce it better.) The concert was rather last minute—we even bought the PA equipment that very morning—but nonetheless we did have time to lovingly slap together a new song particularly for the occasion. The graphic above illustrates us performing it, I think the "encore" where we remembered how the chorus goes. This is a robot dance party because the song actually plays off my phone in live scenarios, with us just singing and dancing during the robot beeping parts. To engender enthusiasm for the eponymous upcoming fake/real conference, we tonight recorded this tune, and it is of course Theme from SIGBOVIK (robot dance party).

Sick Ridiculous and the Sick Ridiculous (15 Mar 2008 at 12:23)
Wintry Mix

You may already know this if you read a few other web logs or if you carefully stalk my last.fm profile: Nels and I have a new band and now I fixed the part of my web radar software where I can upload images again and here's a lightly doctored by me band promo photo that my brother Mike took. And here are all of Mike's best photos of us, and here is our totally pimp myspace page which has a few recording test demo songs (you can tell it's a test when I screw up in the first second of the song but keep going anyway). Wallet-size glossies, more sloppy recordings, and a intra-Pittsburgh open mic tour coming soon.

Theme from Camp Spoonhowopic (07 Sep 2007 at 09:46)
Tomorrow I'm off for the weekend (with lots of friends) to Camp Spoonhowopic, the non-wedding non-ceremony (it's a "camp") celebrating the union of the Spoonhower and Copic families, thus the eponymous portmanteau. And speaking of eponyms, I was commissioned—by which I mean gently requested without fee—to create an official Camp Spoonhowopic theme song. Since they've had the song up on their blog for a month or so, I figure it's fair game to share it with you guys: camp-spoonhowopic.mp3. Be warned that essentially the whole thing consists of in-jokes, but maybe you will like it anyway.

See you next week!

T7es 2007 (07 Aug 2007 at 10:39)
robots sexing each other
robots sexing each other
I put up some new songs from Tom 7 Entertainment System that I wrote this year. I'm particularly excited about Rutgers and Sensations, which the latter is probably my catchiest song in 21/16 time. (Well, at least it gets stuck in my head.) I also snuck some very old tunes I wrote in college or high school into the «classic» section, but those are really only for T7ES completists, of which I believe there are only about 3. Their struggle is futile indeed since there are now over 800 (mostly bad) songs not yet uploaded, which at the current rate gives a projected completion year of 2121.

Underground Onions (22 Feb 2007 at 12:22)
Gabe's brother Jesse was in town and due to their mutual interest in music and desire for bonding in a safe, obstinately supportive bedroom recording "studio", we (also Cortney and later Mike) formed the band Underground Onions and recorded the Underground Unions EP. Recommended only for mp3.tom7.org completists...

As I mentioned at the recording session, aggregate musical ability is more of a dot product than scalar multiplication.

OMG go steelers!! (21 Jan 2006 at 17:41)
OMG go steelers!!
OMG go Steelers! I can't help but get into football when all of Pittsburgh is so excited. I even made two cover versions of the ubiquitous "Here We Go" Steelers themesong. They are: "folk" version and "techno" version. Cortney helped record the latter!

Speaking of blogs and Steelers, I can't help but pass along "Ben Roethlisblogger." Now when someone is like, NFL quarterbacks do not talk like teenage girls on their blogs, you have positive evidence to the contrary.

NEW: N'SANO (10 Dec 2001 at 00:19)
untitled.gif has been stagnating somewhat since Don moved away to go work for The Man. But our message board is quite active, and one of the crazy ideas that came up was to develop our own retarded boy band. 4 people from around the world sent me clips of themselves singing some lyrics I posted (to music "in their heads"), and then I pitch-bent and time-stretched that to go with my corny bass/piano and spastic beats.

The result: N'SANO. Somehow I'm sure this will make no sense to anyone outside this tiny community, but maybe a little background on krazy kakes will help?
