NEW: AAD-20: Betrayal at the Knights of Columbus
(12 Mar 2006 at 19:05) |
Well, I went a few hours over (shame) but I finally finished my twentieth album-a-day. It's called Betrayal at the Knights of Columbus.
One of the best ways to cure a case of musical constipation is to do a totally balls-out recording; here I am doing that in many ways: by picking some of the stupidest sounding MIDI patches that I have access to, by singing about websites, by using my first take as often as possible, and by writing songs about Pittsburgh and things on my desk. I think that the results are positive, but I may be too delirious to tell right now.
Thanks everybody for the song title suggestions. |

NEW: AAD #19: Quad Emotional Damage
(15 Aug 2005 at 00:30) |
I made an album-a-day this weekend, my 19th and the first one in slightly over a year (!). This concept album is my attempt at making a "Ponyoak," that is, a break-up album, so it is supposed to be sad. I put myself under substantial thematic and technological limitations, so I am too exhausted now to appraise the result. But there are at least 2 or 3 songs on there that I think are really good, which is all that one can really hope for with an AAD. (Well, I guess I could also hope that it reaches Heather emotionally and causes her to fall in love with me again, but given how oblique and actually sometimes a little mean [unavoidable; apologies in advance] the lyrics are, that is probably not gonna happen!)

NEW: Album-a-day #18 ''Fake Mars''
(08 Aug 2004 at 17:00) |
This weekend I finally made a new album (my last one was over six months ago!). I think it came out pretty well, but you can judge for yourself by listening to Tom 7 AAD #18: Fake Mars. For those of you who are just joining us, almost all my music is made this way: in 24-hour explosions that I call album-a-day. |

NEW: AAD-17: GGGCAGGG
(24 Jan 2004 at 22:49) |
As a stress relief exercise I made an album-a-day (my 17th solo and 23rd altogether). It's called GGGCAGGG. The levels are totally wack on this one, because I am seriously too lazy to turn down a track when it's too loud. Can you believe that?
As of now I am in a self-imposed ban on all projects until next week's LICS 2004 paper deadline. If you see an update here, give me a good kick! |

Reuters piece on 'crap art,' etc.
(03 Dec 2003 at 20:55) |
Well, here it is, the Reuters piece on NaNoWriMo and my Album-a-day project, among others. Coming from a wire service meant that it will appear in all sorts of places; for instance, you can choose Forbes Magazine or USA Today, or perhaps your local newspaper. |

NEW: album-a-day #16: Isabel "Refuses to Weaken"
(14 Sep 2003 at 21:47) |
I have another new album up. This one is called Isabel "Refuses to Weaken" and I made it in about 7 hours total.
I also just found the site Song Fight! which is a similar idea to album-a-day, except that the participants get a lot longer to make their music. |

NEW: AAD-15: Earthquake Glue (Doppelganger)
(21 Jul 2003 at 20:06) |
I made a new album, my 15th solo one.
This one's a little different; it's a "doppelganger" for Guided By Voices' upcoming "Earthquake Glue." Basically I took the tracklist and "covered" the album without having heard it yet.
Bob Pollard still has more albums than me, but I'm catching up... |

NEW: Album-a-day #14
(30 Jun 2003 at 10:48) |
I made a new album-a-day this weekend. It's called As a Deaf Ear and it's special because I recorded the whole thing without listening to what I was playing, or even listening to the songs after I made them.
Cool experiment or disaster? |

UPD: tom 7 albums-a-day
(05 May 2003 at 22:25) |
I'm starting to move my old albums from their previous home at mp3.com (where you can now only have 3 songs) to my own web server in my office. I've uploaded #13 Examine Machines and Enrich (not previously available!) and #12 Image Gap Committee. More soon, plus new updated AAD homepage... |

NEW: Album-a-day 12
(06 Jan 2003 at 16:12) |
Oh, I forgot to post this: My 12th album-a-day is finally online. It's called Image Gap Committee, named after the committee (apparently filled with cold-war era folks?) devoted to making Pittsburgh seem more hip. I like this one a lot, so check it out if you like to put vibrations in your ears. |
