Really good aim is the key on Nightmare, and also being ruthlessly agressive, until you get to Xaero, then you have to camp because his iam is invincible,

a good way to improve aim is to practice bunny hopping side to side while shooting at the same spot on a wall. and keeping your arm steady and relaxed. or standing still and shooting at moving opponents, you can set yourself on god mode, and shoot at bots on a level with a lot of jump oads while standing still thats good practice also, but i havent tried it myself.

also a good mouse is just as important as a nice video card, if your FPS remains consistent without any lag, and your mouse is very responsive then you should be strait,

the bots on nightmare tend to have inferior aim after they have been hit or while they are being shot, if you shoot them with accuracy they are less effective at killing you, so shoot them fearlessly and when you land hits their aim is less effective.

i use a razer diamond back, a good investment, a generic mouse isnt as responsive, but if you use a generic mouse well it wont be an obstacle.

I tend to use a low sensitivity I see that Fatal1ty
uses a low sensitivity also and he simply lifts the mouse and moves it when it gets near the edge of the mouse pad, i think thats a good strategy because it keeps the muscles in the wrist at ease. the diamondback is adjustable so i change it on the fly usually, but i still think lower is better, when it gets too high the muscles in your arm get to tense and it becomes hard to make minor adjustments.

yeah beating the game on nightmare really isnt the product of any magic hardware, it just takes a ruthless player with good aim, also the bots have a tendency to be somewhat predictable so go after them, and concentrate on killing as many as possible even when your health is at 1

Xaero we've discussed at length in previous posts, so reading those made by TOM 7 and I, and also keeping in mind general q3 pimpage strategies and you should be ready,

I didnt beat the game in one sitting i had to come back every few years, and play it again and each time i got better, i played it alot when it came out, and then i stopped, a year later i would play for a few weeks and then leave it alone for 9 months initially i thought that hardcore was nearly impossible and after a lot of playing nightmare became a breeze, but i never played continously for a long time I would always take long breaks, but a great video card did help alot, asus agp x800 pro vivo, it keeps the game running smooth.

good luck fellow quakers I can understand why we are all here because quake 3 really is a spectacular game, and after many fps games i am realizing that it still holds up as an all time great, and we are the few who recognize its brilliance, its a pleasure to share your company.

be well.

4722. 'shrooms shrooms everywhere but not a... (156.146.1.201) – 22 Jun 2006 13:22:39 Bathroom? Mushroom! ]
I've got a mushroom crop on the bathroom ceiling.

I live in a "pre-world war II" buidling in Brooklyn in NY. There has been four major leaks (from an apartment two floors above me) since June of 05. On Tues. the 21st I was brushing my teeth and looked up at the water damaged ceiling and saw what I thought were exposed wires. When I looked again I realized they were MUSHROOMS!!

They have long stems (3-4 in) and a small dark heads and they grow in groups of three in various parts of the ceiling. The always seem dead when I get home from work in the afternoon, but a new crop in a different part of the ceiling is there in the morning!!

Here's the kicker, on the first day I noticed the 'shrooms I had to go to court in reponse to my landlords complaint that I am an illegal subletee. He didn't sue me for money, but for return of the unit. It's a long story, but the basics are: 1) after the 2nd major water leak in February I told the landlord he had to fix the leak and the damage or I wouldn't pay rent. 2) His ONLY response to my demands was to sue me, not to look at the damage or send someone to look at it.

As a result we have a crop of mushrooms on the ceiling. I'm glad to be getting out of there and I'm sure the landlord has a bigger problem to fix because of his lack of integrity!!

Actually, right after you kill xaero in nightmare you can usually succeed in a run for the bfg. He tries to close the platform on you (rather than shoot it early so you don't land on it), but you can bunny-hop through. The BFG is okay against him, but it runs out of shots too quickly. I think the rocket is safer and easier.

Yeah, there are many secret keys right now. They should be documented in escape.txt, and some kind of in-game documentation should be available. Some day...

i havent beaten xaero on nightmare just yet, but i did get to 4 to 10 on first try... this sounds rediculous, but i bought all 3 quakes just last week, having played 1 and 2 back in '98 and occasionally playing q3 at friends lans. this would be my third day playing q3 consecutively.

basically it seems like you have to go for an all out rail-fest to get him. going for the bfg on hardcore can be done, but its not always smart, and its impossible on nightmare. i was big into 1v1 for UT2k3 and 2k4 and was ranked 20 on PG laddar, which isnt great, but with that, your shock rifle and lightning gun, equivalent of the rail gun, aim becomes fairly good. in my best time i had 78% accuracy with lightning gun.

Oh yeah!! I've already passed Xaero on nightmare skill, on computer of my friend Denis Kepa - i can't play on my, because it's old ( a.s.a.p. I'll buy new ), I also passed Uriel on nightmare, but he is so easy...
My next destination will be Klesk :)

How about adding a "Controls" option on the main menu that explains what all the keys do? I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to learn these solely by studying comments and the feedback forum. Actually I probably don't know all of them myself!

Red Armor and Megahelath.... He allways beat me, but I already know, so keep him away from railgun...

Here's a demo of me beating Anarki 10:1. He is much easier than Xaero (for my style) because there are so many goodies on the level (red armor, megahealth) and he doesn't seem very interested in them. Do keep him away from the rail, but if you have red armor or megahealth, then you'll take at least a few rail hits to die... enough time to kill him with rockets even if he keeps hitting you. Please do lol at how I choke in a near-perfect match though; it's pathetic:

It seems so Xaero is easier than Hunter and Anarki...
Anarki has very good accuracy in rocket launcher and railgun also shotgun and uhhh Plasma GUN! I can't see the way to "smash" him, so If you can tell me ( like stories about defeating Xaero [Thanks A Lot] ) the easiest way to defeat him without using the railgun a lot. Maybe somewhere on this arena exists any places where I can "camp" ?

4711. Kalypso (cpe-68-173-146-35.nyc.res.rr.com) – 20 Jun 2006 17:28:18 Quake 3 Done! ]
uhm... beating anarki is all about great aim, you have to pelt him with the rail gun and kill him with that when he is using other weapons. be aggressive and kill Anarki with the rail from long range, and use the rocket launcher up close, stay very mobile and always prey on him, never run. if you have a bad start at the beginning of the match start over, gain the lead and keep killing him before he gets good weapons, the rail is his best gun i believe so dont let him get that and use it on him.

Xaero is all about hiding behind the pillar and shooting the platform when he lands with rockets, you wont believe how easy it is until you do it. I did it in the second try after someone told me and I think he only killed me once, hide behind the second pillar from the front of the platform, all the way to the left side, you should be aiming at the spot where he lands from the small jump pad. and when you hear that sound you know hes going to land soon, shoot and get away. and everytime it should say that you killed him, it might take 2 rockets but always shoot at that spot. and listen carefully turn the sound up.

TOM7 is right, about the BFG, but when i played him he didnt get the BFG he doesnt use it too often. you might get lucky but even if he gets it and kills you a few times with it, you can still win using the same strategy,

i keep finding myself here, at this same thread... wow.

4710. Zientman (80.51.226.138) – 20 Jun 2006 17:10:41 Quake 3 Done! ]
My friend told me so I have to "camp" and wait, so he can "do" few falls. If he has something like -10 I should get the railgun and begin The Duel. He doesn't say anything 'bout hiding off the pillars etc. He only was saying about the real battle. He must be a master.
Thanks a lot...
One more guy, who is very difficult is Anarki. Are you have any ideas to defeat him. I don't seem so this is easy..

I agree with Kalypso... the #1 priority is to stay hidden when he has the railgun. There's no point in dodging because it won't confuse his aim and the railgun is a hitscan (instant) weapon. The only exception I'd say is that if you hear him bouncing up for the BFG, which he'll do if he can't find you, you can hit the sky target with the machinegun and he'll almost always die with a -1. He might rail you in the air, but it's worth it.

Thank you... I tried also to hide off pillar ( it seems wide black stripe on this pillar ) and rail or dodge him with R.Launcher. Is it good idea?

4701. Kalypso (cpe-68-173-146-35.nyc.res.rr.com) – 20 Jun 2006 03:55:41 Quake 3 Done! ]
This is the same explanation as above, Tom 7 pretty much nailed it, but I already wrote this before realizing that.

you have to frag him the moment he touches the ground after he lands from the jump pad. listen to the sound of the jump pad launching and shoot only when his feet are just about to touch the next platform. right from your hiding spot, and then if hes alive shoot again at the same spot Immediately,

when he is jumping up from the lower platform, unto the main one with all the pillars is when you shoot. he is most vulnerable the moment he lands, cause his feet always touch the same spot and he cant kill you effectivelty if you shoot your rocket and hide before even seeing if it hits him.

its easy if you focus on not being visible and concentrating on shooting where he lands, the moment he gets there.
