[ BAD SAT SCORES ]
All of you are so depressing. I mean, I saw this tv show a week ago where they were interviewing the admissions people from all the brand named schools. Dartmouth admissions claimed that they don't even look at the scores at all at first and just use the essays. Only after they split people into good essay and bad essay groups do they even glance at the scores. Dartmouth is the extreme case, but most of the other admissions people said the same thing in some degree.
What I'm trying to say is, scores count only for a teeny bit of your applications. The essays are more important, along with extracurriculars and your involvement in school.
For people trying to go to Stanford, visit their website. My counselor told me that their description of who they're looking for is extremely accurate. If you fit the description, you have a chance.
Hope this helped. |

I will, Adam! Can you offer me some Gatorade when I'm there? Because it's like 8 miles from my house... probably longer since I can't run through the tunnels. |
| |
You are so lucky to have these steep streets. That must be fun. I don't think we have any like that around here.
I ran down a pretty steep street when I was in San Francisco, but I didn't see Filbert and 22nd. Too bad -- it looks like I really missed out on those Filbert Steps.

COME TO BEECHVIEW!!!!!!!!!!!! Canton Ave is like 1 minute from my house! |

[ Quake 3 Done! ]
Hello there, its me again, I'm into a new project; record my playing from A to Z. I mean all quake 3 arena levels on nightmare, one by one for one only record, without restarting any level. ok, There's something sure: im gonna die on almost every levels, lmao. I can't do all levels without dying, its almost impossible, maybe with time, but not in one record all levels =) So If I got something that may be cool to watch, I will first send the record to any of u who wants to watch , then ill put a torrent or something so people can download. If there's anyone that is good in making a video or effects, or something for credits etc. Just email me or something ! Ok. Time to go kick some ass, I,ll be back soon ! ++

Just wanted to let you know what happened with our mushroom situation...
a while back i found a mushroom in the shower, reported it to the landlord and had the situation checked out... the shroom got sent off to a lab for testing and it was proven to be a nasty one, gave us ongoing respiratory problems for a while. the bathroom was checked out and had to be totally replaced, there was soooo much damage from the mushroom infection, the total cost was well in excess of $20,000 AUS and we had to go without a bathroom for more than 3 months while it was being rebuilt.
In conclusion:
if you find a mushroom somewhere like that, take caution... they can be dangerous and they can also be the sign of some major damage... our floor was so rotten underneath that its a miracle no one fell through.
previous post

hey all, i just jumped in the shower the other day and looked down to see what i thought was a HUGE booger...upon closer inspection i saw that it was a little mushroom growing from a crack in the grouting in between the tiles. Our bathroom is actually really clean and we always use the dehumidifier (exhaust fan)..
i thought it was the coolest (but strangest) thing i had seen in a long time and told everyone to not use that bathroom for a few days. i wanted to see if they would come back so we left the bathroom alone and sure enough several more massive mushrooms started growing :D
we are getting the land lord to check it out and see what can be done to get rid of them..
p.s. they look like an inverted mushroom (off white/yellow in colour) and have tiny black spots on the underside

My one tip is that at high altitudes alcohol has a tendency to hit your system a skosh faster than normal, something I took ready advantage of in the pre-3 oz of liquid limit days. Helps with my flight anxiety and is just a generally different feel of drunk that is enjoyable and cheap. |

Are there travel tips for the way back? |
| |
Ahh, I didn't realize my version was that old :) Everything works fine now, thanks. |
| |
Well, you can follow the same instructions with any old version, since the application has always been arranged the same way. ("Escape.app" shows up as just "Escape" on your desktop or applications folder, etc.) That version is pretty old, though, so I'm not positive that the player files will be compatible with the newest version. I think it will work though. Anyway you should certainly download the new version, so that you'll be able to upgrade again and download new levels, etc. |
| |
Just downloaded escape (200504250) for Mac OS X, my son loves it! However, as many above, we cannot upgrade. I can't do the trick with the old escape.app version, since I don't have that one.
Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Well, I'm glad that somebody eventually got on top of Tom's shit. There's nothing worse than shit without a person on top of it.
P.S. I don't believe that such an inane movie actually exists. The title alone is too ridiculous. Nice try, Tom. |

Oh, he was definitely for me... he knew my name and everything. I had some $2.50 drip coffee at SFO and I think I'm going to have a bit more before I head out tonight, or I'll fall asleep while walking to the train... |
| |
So was the cabbie definitely for you and he got the hotel wrong, or did you get in the wrong cab who took you to the wrong hotel?
Sounds like a day! I hope you had some coffee on the flight or while you were waiting! |

[ BAD SAT SCORES ]
Oh man, compared to what I've heard so far, some of you actually have good scores. I'm not focused so much on the SAT anymore. I scored really low: 480 in LA, 360 in Math, and 500 in writing, but most colleges don't accept the writing portion anyway. The ACT has better chances. For those of you who like Lit/Reading more, you should take the ACT because theres a Lit and Reading, but there's also science, and of course math, but the science portion is just reading charts. I got an 18 out of 36 on the ACT without really studying, and that's still pretty bad, but I plan to take it again. The SAT sucked ass, and it did nothing for me except for lower my self esteem. And Since I go to a magnet school--I'm not in magnet I just go to a magnet school- there's really no SAT or ACT prep classes because most of our magnet students score a perfect if not near a perfect score on the SAT/ACT the first or second time. So my school could careless about those who are non-magnetic. This just really sucks...I want to go school to major in movie production, but that's not going to happen because there's only about four really good art colleges in the area and non of them will accept a low score on the SAT, and I'm even at a greater disadvantage because I'm African American and the colleges only accept a certain amount of African American students a year. So I either have to be the very best or I'm nothing...and I hate going to school because I take AP classes and it's just so hard not to feel intimidated when I'm sitting in a class of 20 magnet students and 5 non magnet students and the only people the teachers have faith in are the magnet students. They don't think that the rest of us are going to make it anyway, so they figure we're not important. I mean the teachers are great, I had one of the best (and probably one of the hardest) AP US History teachers in the entire state of GA, and I came out with an 80 in the class. However, it doesn't mean anything because I probably failed the AP test, and my SAT/ACT scores don't reflect my GPA which is a 3.8 (weighted). I hate life. |

Pittsburgh's airport, PIT. Actually I find it remarkable how few airports do it, since it would be so cheap, and it makes a big difference. I mean, SFO fancies itself a tech center but I gotta pay $n/h for t-mobile wireless? Poo to that! |
| |
Free airport wireless is cool! I used it in Melbourne, Florida. What airport were you in when you posted this?

[ Bathroom? Mushroom! ]
well, when i found my mushrooms i told my hubby there was pasta noodls on the floor... i got mad b/c i thouguht he was keeping the trash down there. he said ' they're mushrooms!" i said, bad excuse for having a leaky trash bag and neglecting to clean it up... but yes, they were mushrooms, and not pasta. I love the fact that im not the only noe who thinks this !!!!!
We live 4 blocks from the beach and have a brick basement floor - when it rains, the brick gets wet, but usually dries.
I have a parrot who has begun plucking her feathers - i thought it was due to the stress of moving (we just moved here)... butnow im worried its affecting her health. Will try salt, and my father (contractor) and uncle (architect) said to get a dehumifier and seal it w/ special sealing paint.
Alternatively, we could pour 3" of concrete over it. |

[ BAD SAT SCORES ]
Sorry about the duplicate (long) comment... Website manager, can kindly you remove it? Thanks. One more thing: my brother had great SATs. He graduated from a 45K-yr university (with a GPA of 3.0) and he is now an rookie agent in federal law enforcement -making decent money, though not great. Monthly payments on his huge college debt are taking away valuable income that he needs now to buy furniture for his house and provide for his wife and baby. He wishes he had listened to me when I told him to go to the state university... Almost every time we speak on the phone he reminds me of how he "sold" his soul to that "most selective" school and how it was not worth it. He got the job he has because of factors such as: he went to a (dirt cheap) state school of Law, became an EMT, a master diver, good at martial arts, mostly because he speaks 3 languages, etc.. - none of it has anything to do with his undergraduate education. So the legacy from the "most selective" college is a debt of $50K. Beware. Unless you are wealthy, your "bad" SATs may be saving you from such debt. |

Thanks MXatt, I like Nintendo Sonata and I listened to it twice!
Dan: Thanks! I am making more... |

[ BAD SAT SCORES ]
I have read some worrisome comments here. Some of you seem devastated that you are stuck with not-so-good colleges. The anguish of some of you makes me very sad, because I have a 17-yr-old son who could be any of you. PLEASE LISTEN TO ME: I taught at Vanderbilt University in Nashville as a TA, my husband is a Vanderbilt trained physican, we are educated people who went to state colleges because we could not afford the elitist ones. We are doing very well in our 40s - thank you! Let me tell you something: go to the college where you are most likely to get straight As. So if you are denied access to Duke - where you would probably be swimming as hard as you could to come out with a 2.9, because the competition includes high school valedictorians from all over the place, you will be far better off at a state school and graduate with a GPA of 4.0. No graduate school, law school or med school will know what your ceiling really is! For all they know, you could have gone to Duke and come out with a 4.0 as well. They will think that maybe you did not go to a Duke or Vanderbilt because you couldn't afford it, not because of your grades. Now, if you go to Stanford andf come out with a 3.0 they will know EXACTLY where your ceiling is. I am not sending my son to a Vanderbilt/ Duke/Rice/Stanford/... He actually did well and had 2030 on his 1st SATs as a HS junior, but I have to consider his long term goals: he wants to do pre-med. As a white male, because of minority preferential admissions, he will always be at a disadvantage. If he gets a couple of Cs in college he may have to forget medicine. So, I want him to go to a good school, where he can get what he needs to do well on the MCATs and be appealing to medical schools, but where he won't have to struggle and forfeit all his other interests in life for 4 years, in order to get his As. Life is too short to be lived at a library when you are 19. So don't fret. A lot of classes at Dukes, Vanderbilts, etc., are taught by foreign TAs anyway - as in any big state university. Some science oriental teachers are hard to understand at both Vanderbilt and UT-Knoxville! So, go to a state school, save yourself the debt and have an easier time getting your As. That will keep your graduate school doors open. Now go and enjoy the life God has given you! Bye y'all |
