Hehe, yeah, go Steelers! =)
Is your friend going to be in the computer science department?
You can indeed overwrite a level that you've created. First, delete the old one by finding it in triage (it should have a key icon next to it) and then pressing 'del'. After that's done you can upload a new level with the same name. We never actually delete levels for good here because it would mean losing any comments, etc. for them. |

Tom -
I just want to let you know that I love this game. Great work.
I do have one suggestion - allow users to overwrite levels that they've created. Maybe there's already a way to do this and I just don't know about it . . .
PS - I have a friend who will be a freshman at CMU next year - any advice?

Wow, looks like you could fit a lot of ultra lounges in a bartini. |

There are a number of things, but particularly I'm thinking of the dissonant trailing off trumpets whenever something bad happens. It just gives me a chuckle every time.
(PS I'm still on Season 1 so no spoilers please!) |

Incidentally, what is it that makes the incidental music in Lost hilariously bad? I can't stand the cheap "Hurley listens to music on his headphones for an ending montage" stuff from Season 1, but I don't suppose that's what you're talking about. |

Sorry to hear that, Jordan!
I had bothersome floaters for a year or so, but now it's back to normal. So they may go away on their own? |

Hi:
I had the exact same type of accident. The airbag deployed, slamming into my face, pushing my glasses deep into my face and creating a permanent dent in my nose.
A few days after the accident, I started see flashing lights in my eyes, followed by some deep, dark eye floaters. That was two years ago. They're still with me to this day.
From what I understand, there's really nothing you can do about the eye floaters. They don't go away and rarely fade. There is some doctor in Washington DC that I might go see that claims to rid or break up the floaters using laser surgery. His website is eyefloaters.com, if you're interested.
Do you still have the floaters? Mine are very bothersome. Fortunately no other real damage. |

[ BAD SAT SCORES ]
This is so unfair. i'm in the top 2% of my class, I got a perfect 80 on the math section of the PSATs and a 65 and 71 in the other two sections, and now when I take my SATs what do I get? A freakin' 1950!
i can't believe my essay score was so low ... i got a 7 ... and I usually write GREAT essays ... it's because i didn't use their phony SAT words that make the essay sound forced & unnatural ... and the section I absolutely HATE is the one i did the best on ... and I don't know WHAT happened in my math section - i got a 650 in it! my calc teacher was like 'whoa, what happened' ... i SO have to retake this ... i want these scores discarded altogether! |

(That having been said, I do really like the clean minimality of the title sequence and its accompanying "music".) |

I agree, Wrong Time Capsule is great. I wish my guitar sounded like that. I think there are a lot of songs like that on the new album Friend Opportunity, like +81 and The Perfect Me... I bet you'd like that album a lot. |
| |
I like this "song of the month" idea very much. I read through all of yours. I'm always into music recommendations from folks whose tastes I match up with pretty well, plus also I enjoy all your background stories and also like your descriptions of why you like the songs (written in a language I very much understand and appreciate precisely, not usually the case for me when folks do try to write about that).
As a result, I would have to say that my song of the month now is the "Wrong Time Capsule" by Deerhoof (the song right before your favorite from that album). I'd been meaning for a while to seek out Deerhoof's last two albums, cuz I had heard they were especially good, but after being so underwhelmed by "Milk Man", I was having trouble ever getting the motivation to do it, so I'm glad that your journal prodded me a little more on that. Also it got me to revisit some old Magnetic Fields albums that I hadn't listened to in years. And while actually I'd say I've never been that into "Distant Plastic Trees", I have now fallen in love again with "Holiday".
Ummm, I guess that's all then stuff (or at least musicians) that I was already into, but I also am working my way through familiarizing myself with the other stuff that I'd never listened to (like Blackalicious and Andrew Bird), so perhaps I will have new things to get into as well... |

I did all my mapping with q3radiant, which at the time was pretty much the only way to do it. I think that it is very similar to the editors for Valve software, because it was originally based off the same code? |

What's up everyone!? I just read the entire thread! I'm surprised no one posted on the 5-year anniversary 12-1-06!
Anyways, I've almost beat the game on nightmare, I'm really close. Do you guys know how to make maps for quake III? Which program is usually used for map editing? I've made a lot of maps for counter-strike with hammer editor and it's fun. |
