Your post made me laugh very much. In fact, I was trying to read the portion about your glasses aloud to my officemate and I couldn't finish. Instead I had to forward him the link.

I hope the rest of your trip turns out much better and you keep us posted on the burning questions that others have. I for one need to see more questions that are on fire!

Your talks always look awesome. I don't understand them, but I read them anyway because of the pretty pictures. Will you make me a talk for my dissertation defense? You have many months to do this for me.

Dang, that's a pretty crazy reduction in time. I like the skeletor talk though.

I tuned the strings down almost an octave and hit it as hard as I could. Definitely not a normal strum...

Was that a normal guitar strum, or did you really belt it? I noted that the way the finger hits the inside of the soundhole doesn't look like something that would happen with a normal strum, unless you really weren't paying attention! ;)

You keep showing up in my dreams, Tom. It is bizarre. I had a dream a couple nights ago where I was you, and I was coming home to my suburban house on the hills after some time away, and it was 2001, and I (you) decided to sleep in the dusty, cruddy basement. In the morning the next day, I (you) could see butterflies and furry animals outside through the ground-level window, and it was all happy, and one of my (your) multiple brothers came downstairs to ask why on earth I (you) had decided to sleep down here, but I couldn't answer because I had to clear my throat.

There was more, but you probably don't care.

And what do they mean exactly by 'kilobyte'? Kilobytes of 'actual broadband traffic' (whatever encapsulation they use), or kilobytes of IPv4/IPv6 packets? And is it kilobytes (10^3 bytes = 1000 bytes) or kibibytes (2^10 bytes = 1024 bytes)(also called 'big kilobytes')?

I have a stall shower in my apartment, and I also have a mushroom that grows out from under it. It will grow out from under the shower in about 2 days, then dies, and right away a new one takes its place. Thing is, it looks nothing like the picture at the top of the page.

wow, that's cool. chess rankings would flatten out, assuming everyone gets to play white as much as black.

truly this is dangerous knowledge.

Hey Tom, I had a dream a couple nights ago that I called you to tell you I had just finished an AAD, and you said several other people had as well that day, including you, and suggested we get together for an AAD party. So there were maybe seven or eight of us, sitting on benches on opposite sides of a white hallway deep inside the middle of a building, just outside a big white auditorium. We were chatting and I was anxiously awaiting when I would get to play my AAD for everyone.

Someone had done a musical AAD, like Darren Ailes's doppelganger, and we decided we were going to watch it performed. So we stepped out into seats in the auditorium where there was a crowd and all these actors performed the AAD, but it never got to an actual musical part before the dream sequence ended, only talking. The play was anti-Bush or criticizing the Iraq war or something like that, and I wondered if anyone would be irked by its blatant partisanship, but all the AAD makers' murmurs were supportive.
